The Department of Community Services administers and supervises various programs and services that are designed to provide assistance to low income, elderly, handicapped and/or other disadvantaged residents of St. Charles Parish Programs and services include weatherization, commodity distribution, emergency assistance, and energy assistance.

Hours: Mon-Fri 8:30am-4pm

Eligibility: Low-income, elderly, handicap, etc. Picture ID, Social Security Card, Proof of Residence required.

Requirements: Must meet income guidelines, food stamp recipients, receive SS, SSI, VA, or AFDC income.

Project Transition Programs

Offered through the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office Project Transition prepares inmates for re-entry into the community by providing classes and outreach.

All residents are required to take a breathalyzer whenever they come into the building. If they cannot pass it, they are immediately terminated from the shelter. Drug tests are also required to stay at the C.O.H. If a drug test is failed, they will not be admitted to the shelter (C.O.H. has a Zero Tolerance Drug and Alcohol Policy.)

Clients can stay up to 5 consecutive days for free in the emergency shelter. Photo id is required to stay at The Center of Hope.
